1. Typhoon Soulik forecast to hit Wednesday afternoon
Authorities urge residents to prepare

Forecasters say Typhoon Soulik is headed directly toward Jeju and will likely hit Wednesday afternoon.

This season’s 19th major storm is relatively strong and mid-sized: it has a core atmospheric pressure of 960 hectopascals and a maximum wind speed of 39 meters per second. On Monday, Soulik was southeast of Kagoshima, Japan and moving at 19 kilometers per hour.

It started heading on a more northward track toward the Korean Peninsula Tuesday morning. The National Typhoon Center says that by Wednesday morning it will be about 270 kilometers south of Seogwipo and heading directly our way.

Authorities say it will maintain its strength as it nears Jeju, so they are urging all island residents to prepare for strong hit.

22일 오전 서귀포 남쪽 270킬로미터 부근 해상까지 이동해 제주를 직접 강타할 것으로 국가태풍센터는 예상했습니다.

특히 제주에 근접하면서 여전히 강한 세력을 유지할 것으로 보여 피해 예방에 각별한 주의가 요구되고 있습니다.
