Yang Yun-kyeong becomes mayor of Seogwipo

The island’s two cities now officially have new mayors.

(고희범) Go Hee-beom, the former publisher of The Hankyoreh, is the mayor of Jeju City, while the former chair of the association representing the relatives of April Third Incident victims, (양윤경) Yang Yun-kyeong, has the top position in Seogwipo.

Governor Won Hee-ryong on Tuesday presented certificates of appointment to both at the provincial office. Inauguration ceremonies followed, and then the two mayors officially began their jobs.

The provincial council confirmed both new mayors despite concerns over real estate speculation, with local lawmakers saying it would be unwise to ignore the vacuum in leadership if the positions went unfilled.

제주시장 고희범·서귀포시장 양윤경 임용

고희범 전 한겨례신문 사장과 양윤경 전 4.3유족회 회장이 각각 제주시장과 서귀포시장에 임명됐습니다.

원희룡 도지사는 21일 오전 집무실에서 도의회 인사청문회를 통과한 고희범 제주시장과 양윤경 서귀포시장에게 각각 임용장을 수여했습니다.

두 행정시장은 이후 제주시와 서귀포시에서 각각 취임식을 갖고 공식 업무에 들어갔습니다.

앞서 도의회는 부동산 투기 의혹 등 논란에도 불구하고 시정 공백을 방치할 수 없다는 판단에따라 '적격' 의견의 청문보고서를 채택했습니다.
