Police plan more nightly patrols

Following a special KCTV report on prostitution around (산지천) Sanjicheon in Jeju City, local police say they are doing more to stamp out and prevent the practice.

Officers met local residents Wednesday at the Jeju Dongbu Police Station to discuss methods of creating a quote/unquote “healthy culture” around Sanjicheon.

Police say they will make at least two unannounced prostitution crackdowns every month. They will also establish a place to station patrol cars in the area at night.

Since last year, police have made 14 arrests and closed down two businesses for prostitution-related charges.

경찰, 산지천 일대 성매매 단속 강화

KCTV가 집중 보도했던 제주시 산지천 일대 성매매 문제와 관련해 경찰이 성매매 단속과 예방활동을 강화합니다.

제주동부경찰서는 22일 경찰서 회의실에서 지역 주민들과 간담회를 열고 산지천의 건전한 문화를 조성하기 위한 방안을 논의했습니다.

경찰은 한달에 두 번 이상 산지천 일대에서 불시로 성매매를 단속하고, 밤시간대 순찰차 거점근무 장소를 지정해 호객 행위를 억제할 방침입니다.

한편 경찰은 지난해부터 지금까지 성매매 혐의로 14명을 입건하고 업소 2곳을 폐쇄했습니다.
