Local officials survey damage

Local officials are focusing on cleanup efforts in the wake of Typhoon Soulik.

Governor Won Hee-ryong says he postponed the regularly scheduled provincial personnel reassignments that were supposed to happen Friday in order to deal with storm damage.

As part of a video conference on disaster relief efforts with President Moon Jae-in and other officials, the governor expressed his regret for a tourist who was pulled out to sea by the storm’s waves and who remains missing. Mr. Won suggested further restricting access to some of the smaller points of interest along the local coast, like (소정방) Sojeongbang Falls, where the woman went missing.

The provincial government and the island’s two municipal administrations are working together to get a handle on the extent of local damage, and they have mobilized government officials to support recovery efforts in especially hard-hit areas.

태풍 피해 복구 본격... "정기인사 연기, 해변 통제 확대"

제주도는 태풍 솔릭이 물러나자 당초 24일 예정했던 하반기 정기 인사를 연기하고
피해복구 작업에 본격적으로 나서고 있습니다.

원희룡 제주특별자치도지사는 하반기 정기 인사 발표를 당분간 연기하고 태풍 피해 복구를 우선하겠다고 밝혔습니다.

원 지사는 또 문재인대통령 주재로 열린 중앙대책본부 점검 화상회의에서 관광객 실종사건이 발생한데 유감을 표명하고 사고가 발생한 소정방폭포 같은 규모가 적은 해변에 대해서도 출입통제를 확대할 필요가 있다고 건의했습니다.

제주도는 행정시와 함께 태풍 피해 상황 파악에 나서는 한편 심각한 지역에 대해서는 공무원을 동원해 복구 작업을 지원하고 있습니다.
