62 meters/second at 4:25 AM Thursday

Typhoon Soulik dumped mass amounts of rain on Jeju and it packed record-breaking wind.

The Jeju Regional Meteorological Administration says its automatic weather station at Hallasan Mountain’s azalea field detected maximum instantaneous gusts of 62 meters per second at 4:25 a.m. Thursday.

That’s a new national record. The previous was 60 meters second, which was recorded September 12th, 2003 in Jeju and at higher elevations elsewhere during Typhoon Maemi.

262.8 millimeters of rain had fallen on Jeju Thursday as of 2 p.m. That’s the 5th most since records began being kept in 1923, and the 3rd highest daily total for August.

한라산 진달래밭 초속 62ｍ '기록적 강풍'

태풍 솔릭 영향으로 '태풍의 길목'이었던 제주도에 기록적 강풍이 몰아치고 폭우가 쏟아졌습니다.

제주지방기상청에 따르면 한라산 진달래밭에 설치된 AWS 즉 자동기상관측장비에서 23일 오전 4시 25분께 최대순간풍속 초속 62m가
기록됐습니다.

우리나라 기상관측 이래 태풍으로 인한 최대순간풍속 최고치는 초속 60ｍ로, 태풍 '매미'가 내습한 2003년 9월 12일 제주와 고산 지점에서 기록됐습니다.

비도 엄청나게 내려 23일 오후 2시 262.8mm가 쏟아졌는데 이는 1923년 관측 시작 이래 5번째로 많은 것이며, 8월 일일강수량 기록으로는 역대 3위에 해당하는 것 입니다.
