25% fewer work contracts in July

The construction industry in Jeju is struggling with a lack of work.

The Jeju branch of the Construction Association of Korea says its 296 member companies got 334 new contracts last month. That’s 25 percent fewer than in July 2017.

That includes 178 contracts worth 220 billion won for general construction work and 156 contracts worth 160 billion won for civil engineering projects. Those are both 25 percent reductions.

The association says newly ordered harbor construction will help the situation, but that it won’t be enough to turn the industry around??the rate at which it contracts will just slow down.

제주도내 건설 경기 신규 발주가 계속해서 줄어들고 있습니다.

대한건설협회 제주도지부에 따르면 지난달 도내 종합건설회사 296개 회원사가
신규 도급한 공사는 334건으로 지난해 같은 기간보다 25% 감소했습니다.

부문별로 보면 건축공사가 178건에 2천 2백억 원, 토목공사가 156건에 1천 600억 원으로 1년전보다 각각 25%씩 줄어든 것으로 나타났습니다.

건설협회는 최근 발주된 항만공사 등으로 감소폭은 예상보다 줄어들었지만 장기적으로 감소세는 계속 이어질 것이라고 전망했습니다.
