2. Number of unemployed up 40% in 10 years
Economically active population grew 29% over same period

The ranks of the unemployed have grown in Jeju over the past decade.

The Honam branch of Statistics Korea says about 7,000 people are currently without work on the island. That’s 40 percent more than the 5,000 unemployed in 2008.

On the other hand, the economically active population grew by more than 29 percent over the same period.

Jeju’s unemployment rate last year was 1.9 percent??far below the national average of 3.7 percent.


제주 실업자 수 10년 전보다 40% 증가

지난 10년 간 제주지역 실업자수가 크게 늘어난 것으로 조사됐습니다.

호남지방통계청 제주사무소에 따르면 지난해 제주지역 실업자는 7천명으로 10년 전인 2008년 5천명에 비해 40% 증가했습니다.

반면 제주지역 취업자 수는 경제활동참가 인구가 크게 늘면서 10년 전에 비해 29% 이상 증가한 것으로 집계됐습니다

지난해 제주지역 실업률은 1.9%로 전국 평균 3.7%에 비해서는 낮은 수준입니다.
