Observers say fruit is larger and more numerous than average
This year’s crop of outdoor-grown mandarin oranges will likely be somewhere between 460,000 and 494,000 tons.
The mandarin observation committee and Jeju Agricultural Research and Extension Services have finished their second round of observations.
They found that each tree has an average of 816 mandarins, which is 18 more than average. The fruit is also 1.5 millimeters larger than normal.
Researchers say the sugar content is 8.2 degrees brix, which is 0.6 degrees higher than normal, but that acidity is also a bit higher at 3.17 percent.
Researchers say there is a wide disparity in the amount of fruit per tree??trees in Jeju City had a significant amount of fruit, while those in Seogwipo had noticeably less.
Jeju ARES is advising growers to thin their crops by removing fruit that is either too small or too big as well as deformed fruit and mandarins that have been damaged by disease or pests.

올해 노지감귤은 46만에서 49만 4천톤이 생산될 것으로 전망됐습니다.
감귤관측조사위원회와 제주도농업기술원의 노지감귤 2차 관측 결과 이같이 나왔습니다.
특히 나무당 평균 열매수가 816개로 평년보다 18개 많았고 열매크기 또한 평년에 비해 1.5mm 큰 것으로 조사됐습니다.
당도는 8.2브릭스로 평년보다 0.6브릭스, 산함량은 3.17%로 평년보다 다소 높았습니다.
지역별로 제주시 지역의 경우 착과량이 많았지만 서귀포시는 상대적으로 적었고
나무간 착과량 역시 많은 차이를 보인 것으로 나타났습니다.
농업기술원은 지나치게 크거나 작은 과일, 병해충이나 기형과일을 솎아낼 것을 강조하고 있습니다.
