Groundwater levels are still below normal, despite the recent rain.

Provincial officials say the average water level in 68 observation wells is 14.76 meters. That’s two meters higher than at this time last year, but it’s still 0.55 meters below average.

Some areas of Seogwipo are especially dry: the well in (회수) Hoesu is 11.3 meters below normal, another in (상예) Sangye is 9.6 meters lower than average.

The province says it has increased its monitoring of the situation. The island is still feeling the effects of last year’s severe drought. Farmers are beginning to plant winter vegetables in Daejeong and Hangyeong, and groundwater levels are low enough that those crops are threatened by saltwater incursions.

제주 지하수위가 여전히 평년 수준을 밑돌고 있습니다.

제주특별자치도가 최근 기준수위 관측정 68개소를 분석한 결과 평균 14.76미터로 지난해 같은기간보다 2미터 정도 높아졌지만 평년과 비교했을 때 여전히 0.55미터 낮은 것으로 나타났습니다.

특히 서귀포 회수와 상예지역의 지하수위가 평년보다 각각 11.3미터와 9.6미터 낮아 심각한 것으로 조사됐습니다.

제주도는 지난해 극심한 가뭄현상이 현재까지 이어지고 있다며 최근 대정과 한경지역의 월동채소 파종시기와 맞물려 염해피해가 발생할 수 있는 만큼
모니터링을 강화하고 있다고 밝혔습니다.
