3. Warning issued for tick-borne illnesses
More people heading outside to tend ancestral graves

Health authorities have issued a warning about tick-borne illnesses now that more people are spending time outside cutting the grass at ancestral graves.

The Seogwipo Dongbu Community Health Center says there is a greater risk of tick-borne illnesses like severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome and scrub typhus through the end of November. It says people should wear long sleeves when working outside, and that they should make sure to both wash those clothes and bathe when they come in.

Over the last five years, 54 people in Jeju have contracted SFTS and five of them have died from the illness.

벌초철을 맞아 야외활동이 늘어남에 따라 진드기 매개 질환에 대한 주의가 요구됩니다.

서귀포시 동부보건소는 11월까지 진드기에 물려 감염되는 중증열성 혈소판감소증과 쯔쯔가무시증 발병 가능성이 높은 만큼 야외작업 할 경우 가급적 긴 옷을 입고 작업한 뒤에는 빨래와 목욕을 강조했습니다.

제주에서는 최근 5년 동안 54명이 중증열성 혈소판감소증에 감염됐으며 이 가운데 5명이 숨졌습니다.
