ROK Navy’s October event in Jeju will feature 50+ vessels

The navy’s third International Naval Review begins October 10th at the Jeju Civilian-Military Complex Port, and officials say it will be the largest one yet.

The navy says 14 foreign navies are sending 21 of their vessels to take part in the five-day event. Representatives from 45 nations will attend, and the review will include a total of some 50 ships and 20 aircraft.

The United States Navy will bring four ships to the event, the most among foreign navies, including the supercarrier USS Ronald Reagan. They will all take part in the naval parade and review.

Controversy is brewing over one of the Japanese ships that will participate because it flies the rising sun flag that was used by the Imperial Japanese Navy.

해군 "제주 국제관함식, 역대 최대 규모"

다음달 10일부터 닷새 동안 제주 민군복합항에서 열리는 제3회 국제관함식이 역대 최대 규모로 열릴 예정입니다.

해군은 국제관함식에 14개국에서 21척의 외국 군함과 45개국 대표단 등 군함 50여 척, 항공기 20여 대가 참가해 역대 관함식 가운데 최대 규모라고 설명했습니다.

특히 미국은 항공모함 로널드 레이건함 등 참가국 가운데 가장 많은 4척을 선보일 예정이며 공개 행사와 해상 사열 등을 펼치게 됩니다.

한편 일본 자위대 함정 1척이 일본 제국주의 상징으로 불리는 욱일승천기를 달고 관함식에 참가할 것으로 알려져 논란이 일고 있습니다.
