Steering committee passes resolution for 13-member committee

The 11th provincial council is moving ahead with the process of forming an April 3rd Incident committee.

The council steering committee convened for the first time Friday and passed a resolution submitted by independent council member Heo Chang-ok to form the April 3rd Incident committee.

It still needs to pass at a general meeting of the council, but analysts foresee few problems there as the steering committee includes the chairs of the body’s six standing committees and all floor negotiation groups.

The proposal calls for an at most 13-member committee with a one-year term.

It will focus on getting amendments to the April 3rd Incident Special Law passed, expanding government support for incident victims and their families, and resolving other issues.

제11대 제주도의회에 4.3특별위원회 구성이 가시화되고 있습니다.

제주도의회 의회운영위원회는 14일 정례회 회기 중 1차 회의를 열고 무소속 허창옥 의원이 대표 발의한 '4.3특별위원회 구성 결의안'을 원안 가결했습니다.

본회의 의결 절차가 남아있지만 6개 상임위원회 위원장과 원내 교섭단체 대표들이 참여하고 있는 의회운영위원회에서 가결됨에 따라 본회의 통과는 무난할 전망입니다.

4.3특위는 13명 이내로 구성하고 활동기간은 1년으로 규정했습니다.

4.3특별법 개정 관철 노력과 4.3희생자와 유족에 대한 복지 확대 등 4.3관련 주요 현안 해결을 위한 활동을 하게 됩니다.
