4. Strong start to yellow corvina season
Catch up 68% in first month

Fishermen are hauling in huge amounts of yellow corvinas from the waters around Chujado and Marado.

Jeju City officials say 1,226 tons of the fish were sold between August 11th, when the season opened, and September 11th. That’s 68 percent more than during the same period last year.

They sold for nearly 10.9 billion won, which is 55 percent more than last year.

Local officials expect prices to continue to rise because of increasing demand for the fish, which is often given as a holiday gift and used in traditional Chuseok rituals.

추자도와 마라도 근해에 참조기 어장이 형성돼 조업이 활기를 띠고 있습니다.

제주시에 따르면 참조기 금어기가 끝난 지난달 11일부터 지난 11일까지 한달간 참조기 위판량은 1천226톤으로 지난해 같은 기간보다 68% 증가했습니다.

특히 판매 단가가 오르며 위판액은 108억7천여 만원으로 55% 늘었습니다.

제주시는 추석 명절이 다가옴에 따라 제수용과 선물용 수요 증가로 위판단가는 오름세가 지속할 것으로 전망했습니다.
