Sales hit US $188m

Duty-free shops in Jeju recorded their best month of sales ever in August.

According to industry representatives, the 188 million US dollars in sales surpassed the previous record of 180 million dollars, which was set just three months earlier in May.

76 percent of the sales, 143 million dollars, were at duty-free shops exclusively for foreign travelers.

The number of shoppers was up, as well. Duty-free shops for non-Koreans welcomed 129,000 customers last month??ten percent more than the month before. The shops for domestic consumers welcomed 510,000??eight percent more than in July.



8월 도내 면세점 매출액 사상 최대

지난 달 제주도내 면세점 매출액이 월 별 규모로는 사상 최대 실적을 올렸습니다.

면세점 업계에 따르면 도내 면세점의 지난달 매출액은 1억 8천 8백만 달러로
지난 5월 매출액 1억 8천만 달러를 넘어 3개월 만에 최대 실적을 경신했습니다.

특히 외국인 면세점 매출액이 1억 4천 3백만 달러로 전체 매출액의 76%를 차지했습니다.

지난달 면세점 이용객은 외국인 면세점이 12만 9천 명, 내국인 면세점은 51만 명으로 전 달 대비 각각 10%와 8%씩 늘었습니다.
