Local authorities monitoring for bird flu, foot-and-mouth disease

The provincial government is enacting tougher measures in October to prevent local outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza and foot-and-mouth disease.

Local officials say the measures will stay in place through the end of February.

Over the next five months, the provincial government, the Jeju Veterinary Service Laboratory, and the island’s two cities will run control rooms, which will be responsible for monitoring and disinfection work at migratory bird habitats, livestock farms, the airport, and seaports.

The province is also asking the public to report any suspected cases of the diseases to authorities.

10월 부터 고병원성 AI와 구제역에 대한 방역이 강화됩니다.

제주특별자치도는 10월부터 내년 2월까지 고병원성 AI와 구제역 특별방역대책을 추진한다고 밝혔습니다.

이 기간 제주도와 동물위생시험소, 행정시에 상황실이 설치되고 철새도래지 축산농가, 공항만 등에 대한 소독과 모니터링이 강화됩니다.

제주도는 질병 의심 증세가 있으면 즉시 방역당국으로 신고해 줄 것을 당부했습니다.
