3. Province buying extremely early maturing mandarin oranges
12,000 tons will be bought and destroyed

The provincial government is paying growers for extremely early maturing mandarin oranges, which are proving hard to sell for processing.

Officials say they plan to purchase 12,000 tons of the fruit between October 1st and November 10th, and then discard it.

The province has set aside 2.1 billion won for the initiative. It will pay farmers 180 won per kilogram.

Officials are urging growers to take advantage of the offer as part of efforts to keep substandard citrus off the market.

제주특별자치도는 10월 1일부터 11월 10일까지 극조생 가공용 감귤 1만 2천 톤을
농가에서 자가 격리시킨다고 밝혔습니다.

제주도는 참여 농가에 kg당 180원씩, 전체 21억 여원의 수매금을 지원할 예정입니다.

제주도는 비상품 감귤 유통이 근절될 수 있도록 농가의 적극적인 참여를 당부했습니다.
