5. Jeju has most abandoned pets in its administrative class
Nearly 20,000 over past 6 years

Among all similar administrative regions in the country, Jeju has the most abandoned pets.

According to independent (손금주) Son Geum-joo, a member of the National Assembly Agricultural and Fisheries Committee, 517,407 animals have been abandoned in the nation over the past six years.

At the metropolitan level, Gyeonggi-do had the most at 122,407. Next in line were Seoul, Busan, Gyeongnam, and Incheon, in that order.

At the primary local government level, Jeju had the most at 19,193. Changwon, Gyeongsangnam-do and Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi-do followed.

제주, 유기동물 기초자치단체 中 '최다'

제주도가 유기된 반려동물이 기초자치단체 가운데 가장 많은 것으로 조사됐습니다.

국회 농림축산식품해양수산위원회 무소속 손금주 의원에 따르면 최근 6년간 유기된 반려 동물은 모두 51만7천407마리로 나타났습니다.

광역자치단체별로는 경기도가 12만2천407마리로 가장 많았고 서울과 부산, 그리고 경남과 인천 순이었습니다.

기초자치단체별로는 제주도가 만9천193마리로 가장 많았고 경남 창원시와 경기 평택시가 그 뒤를 이었습니다.
