3. School zone safety inspections
15 accidents in the zones so far in 2018, already more than last year

Local officials plan to conduct safety inspections of the island’s school zones.

The provincial government and the Jeju branch of the Road Traffic Authority are teaming up for the work. They will select 32 school zones for the inspections among the roughly 320 on the island.

Among other things, inspectors will be checking to make sure that school zone and speed limit signs are installed, that guardrails are set up around the routes children usually take to school, and that other barriers are installed to keep vehicles off walkways.

15 traffic accidents have occurred in school zones so far this year. That’s already more than the 14 recorded in all of last year.

제주특별자치도가 어린이보호구역 내 교통안전시설물에 대한 안전감찰에 나섭니다.

이를 위해 도내 320여군데 어린이 보호구역 가운데 32개소를 표본으로 선별해
도로교통공단 제주지부와 공동으로 점검합니다.

중점 점검내용은 안내표지판과 속도제한표지판의 적정 설치 여부, 통학로의 방호울타리 적정설치, 장애물 설치 여부 등입니다.

올들어 지금까지 어린이 보호구역에서 교통사고 발생건수는 15건으로 지난한해 14건을 이미 넘어섰습니다.
