Ministry of Justice finishes interviewing hundreds of Yemenis in Jeju

National authorities will release their decisions this month regarding hundreds of Yemeni asylum seekers in Jeju.

The Ministry of Justice has finished interviewing some 460 of the 480 asylum seekers. Ministry representatives say they may release the results of their assessments as early as mid-October.

The justice ministry last month granted humanitarian stay permits to 23 Yemenis, including families with infants and young children as well as pregnant women and teenagers, but it did not grant them refugee status.

제주에 있는 예맨인들의 난민 인정 여부가 이번달안에 판가름 날 전망입니다.

법무부는 현재까지 심사 대상 예맨인 480명 가운데 460여 명에 대한 면접을 완료했고 빠르면 이달 중순쯤 심사 결과가 나올 예정이라고 밝혔습니다.

앞서 법무부는 지난 달 영유아 동반가족과, 임산부와 청소년 등 예맨인 23명에 대해 난민 지위는 부여하지 않았지만 인도적 차원에서 체류 허가를 결정했습니다.
