National lawmaker calls for probe to rule out real estate speculation

A National Assembly member wants to inspect the country’s foreign-owned homes, which are concentrated in the capital region and Jeju, to ensure there is no evidence of real estate speculation.

Liberty Korea Party representative (김상훈) Kim Sang-hoon, who sits on the Land, Infrastructure, and Transport Committee, analyzed data from July and discovered that non-Korean individuals or companies at that time owned about 83-hundred buildings in the country, covering some 1.6 million square meters of floor space.

22-hundred of the buildings were in Seoul, 17-hundred were in Gyeonggi-do Province, and 760 were in Jeju.

Mr. Kim argued for the need to draw up measures to investigate possible foreign real estate speculation in the regions, which have in recent years had active housing markets.

"외국인 소유 주택, 수도권- 제주에 집중"

외국인이 소유한 주택이 수도권과 제주에 집중돼 투기적 요소가 없는지 확인해야 한다는 지적입니다.

국회 국토교통위원회 자유한국당 김상훈 의원이 국토교통부로부터 제출받아 분석한 자료에 따르면 올해 7월까지 외국인 또는 외국법인이 소유한 일반건축물은 8천 300여동으로 면적으로 따지면 160만 제곱미터에 이르고 있습니다.

이 가운데 서울에 2천 200여동으로 가장 많고 다음이 경기도 1천 700동, 이어 제주가 760동으로 세번째 많은 것으로 분석됐습니다.

김 의원은 외국인의 주택쏠림현상이 수도권과 제주에 집중되고 있다며 투기적 요소는 없는 지 살펴보고 대책을 마련해야 한다고 주장했습니다.
