A third public opinion poll on the proposed opening of the nation's first for-profit foreign hospital is complete, and by a wide margin, locals oppose the plan. Joseph Kim reports.

Three rounds of public opinion polls about the nation's first for-profit foreign hospital, the Greenland International Hospital, have been made.

Results show a predominance of objections to the for-profit, foreign-invested hospital.

Public opinion poll results: 58.9% oppose, 38.9% support

In the final opinion poll, the public opinion committee asked 180 residents about their sentiment. 106 residents or 58.9 percent oppose the for-profit hospital, while 70 residents or 38.9 percent support it.

Among those surveyed, 68.2 percent of women and 50.5 percent of men oppose the hospital.

By age, 69 percent of respondents in their twenties or thirties, 67 percent in their forties or fifties, and 36 percent in their sixties or more stand in opposition.

By region, 60.4 percent of Jeju City citizens and 54.3 percent of Seogwipo City citizens oppose the Greenland International Hospital. ### CG OUT ###

The Public Opinion Poll Committee has submitted its recommendations that include the opinion poll results to the governor.

The committee carried out three rounds of public opinion polls.

### CG IN ###
It had the initial public opinion poll of 3,000 local residents, with 20.5 percent in support of the hospital, while 39.5 percent were in opposition.

Among the 3,000 residents, 200 were later selected proportionally based on their opinion.

In the second survey, 56.5 percent opposed the plan. Meanwhile, 58.9 percent stood in opposition at the third survey.

In the final opinion poll, 2.2 percent deferred their decision.

The public opinion poll suggests using the already built hospital buildings as a non-profit hospital to prevent the HealthCare Town from losing its name and taking care of the employees of the Greenland International Hospital who would lose their jobs if the hospital is not approved.
