1. Illegal aliens encouraged to voluntarily leave
No penalty if they leave on their own

The Ministry of Justice is now encouraging undocumented aliens to leave the country voluntarily from this month to March.

The ministry has announced that illegal aliens will be exempt from a reentry ban if they voluntarily leave the country.

On the other hand, the ministry plans to impose a maximum 10-year-reentry ban on illegal aliens caught in crackdown, making the penalty tougher.

As of August, 11,800 foreigners were estimated to be staying in Jeju beyond the granted visa-free stay length.




법무부, 불법체류 자진 출국기간 운영

법무부가 이달부터 내년 3월까지 6개월 동안 불법체류 외국인을 대상으로 특별 자진 출국 기간을 운영합니다.

이 기간 불법체류자가 자발적으로 출국할 경우 추후 입국 규제 등의 불이익을 주지 않기로 했습니다.

반대로 이 기간 단속에 적발된 불법체류자는 한 단계 높은 입국 규제 규정을 적용해 최대 10년간 입국을 금지할 계획입니다.

한편 제주지역 무사증 체류기간이 넘은 외국인은 올해 8월기준 1만1천800여 명에 이르고 있습니다.
