3. Hagwi 1-ri local merchants oppose one-way street plan
Mayor ‘will reconsider issue’

Local merchants from Hagwi 1-ri, Aewol-eup, Jeju City visited Jeju City Hall Friday to demand the withdrawal of one-way street plan.

50 merchants had a meeting with Jeju City Mayor Go Hee-beom and they requested that the plan without their consent should be discontinued, saying it would interfere with their business.

The mayor answered the designation of one-way streets was inevitable to solve parking problems and traffic congestion but he added he would reconsider the case.

The designation procedure in Hagwi 1-ri has been carried out after reviewing the village council’s request. Jeju City plans to implement the one-way traffic scheme from December on a trial basis.

하귀1리 상인회, "일방통행 지정 반대"

제주시 애월읍 하귀1리 상인회가 5일 오전 제주시청을 방문해 일방통행로 추진 철회를 촉구했습니다.

상인 50여 명은 고희범 제주시장과 면담을 갖고 상인 동의 없이 추진되는 일방통행으로 인해 상권 피해가 우려되고 있다며 중단해줄 것을 요구했습니다.

이에 대해 고희범 시장은 일방통행로 지정은 원활한 교통 흐름과 주차공간 확보를 위해 불가피하다면서도 하귀1리의 경우 내부적으로 논의를 해보겠다고 답했습니다.

제주시는 하귀1리 마을회 요구에 따라 일방통행로 지정을 추진하고 있으며 오는 12월부터는 시범 운영한다는 계획입니다.
