25 people assigned to remove license plates from cars with unpaid bills

Jeju City is working harder to collect unpaid vehicle tax.

The city has assigned 25 people to remove the license plates from vehicles with unpaid tax. They will be out looking for those cars for three months beginning this month, and they will be working on weekends and holidays as well as weekdays.

If an owner of one of the vehicles does not go to retrieve the plate, authorities will order that its ownership be transferred or that it be towed away and put up for auction.

About 4.4 billion won in auto tax is unpaid in Jeju City. That’s 12.4 percent of all local tax payments that are in arrears.

제주시가 자동차세 체납액 징수 활동을 강화합니다.

이를 위해 이달부터 석달간 주중 뿐 아니라 공휴일에도 인력 25명을 투입해
제주 전역에서 자동차세 체납에 따른 번호판 영치활동에 나섭니다.

영치 후 번호판을 찾아가지 않는 차량에 대해서는 인도명령 또는 강제견인 등을 통해 공매 처분하게 됩니다.

현재 제주시 지역의 자동차세 체납액은 44억원으로 전체 지방세 체납액의 12.4%를 차지하고 있습니다.
