2. Jeju City population tops 500k
Gain of nearly 95k since 2006

More than half a million people now live in Jeju City.

City officials say the population at the end of September was 500,335. The total includes Korean citizens and foreign nationals.

That’s 94,500 more people than were living in the city in 2006, when Jeju gained its semi-autonomous status.

Nohyeong-dong is the most populous region of the city, with 55,000 residents. Next is Ido 2-dong with 50,400, followed by Yeon-dong with 43,200. Among rural regions, Aewol-eup is the most populous??36,100 people live there.

The Ara-dong population has grown the most: nearly tripling from 12,000 in 2006 to some 34,000 now.

On the other hand, populations have decreased in Ildo 1-dong, Yongdam 1-dong, Ildo 2-dong, and Chuja-myeon.

제주시 인구 50만 돌파…2006년 이후 9만명 늘어

제주시 인구가 50만명을 돌파했습니다.

제주시는 9월 말 외국인을 포함한 인구수가 50만 335명으로 집계됐다고 밝혔습니다.

2006년 특별자치도 출범 당시에 비해 9만 4천 500명 늘어난 것입니다.

지역별로 보면 노형동이 5만 5천여명으로 가장 많고 다음이 이도2동 5만 400여명, 연동 4만 3천 200여명이며 읍면지역 가운데 애월읍이 3만 6천 100명으로 가장 많습니다.

특별자치도 출범 이후 인구수가 가장 크게 증가한 지역은 아라동으로 2006년 말 1만 2천명에서 현재 3만 4천여명으로 2.6배 늘었습니다.

반면 일도1동과 용담1동, 일도2동, 추자면의 인구수는 오히려 감소해 대조를 보였습니다.
