1. Slump in construction and tourism
Both industries declined year-over-year in September

Construction and tourism, two sectors that usually lead the local economy, are both in a slump.

The Jeju branch of the Bank of Korea says that, compared to September 2017, the size of the area under construction on the island fell 46.1 percent last month. The size of the area for which construction permits were issued dropped 35.2 percent.

Fewer domestic visitors led the overall tourist arrival tally to drop 3.2 percentage points over the same period.

Those decreases come as consumer prices rose 1.7 percent. Most of those gains were centered on water and gas, as the progressive temporary easing of residential electricity rates ended in July and August.

반면 소비자 물가는 지난 7, 8월 주택용 전기요금 누진제 한시적 완화가 종료되면서 수도·가스를 중심으로 1.7% 올랐습니다.
