3. April 3rd Incident retrials set to begin
Jeju District Court will start reconsidering 18 cases October 29

The first retrial for people convicted of offenses during the April 3rd Incident is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. October 29th at Jeju District Court.

The court will consider the cases of 18 people, including Yang Geun-bang, who applied for the retrials. All had been convicted of charges of carrying out a rebellion and violating the National Guards Act.

The court decided to accept their petitions for retrials because authorities could not confirm the existence of arrest warrants for the accused, even though they had been imprisoned. Some were also found to have been subject to illegal detention and cruel treatment.

제주지방법원 201호 법정에서 열립니다.

제주지방법원은 양근방 할아버지 등 제주 4.3사건 수형 피해자 18명이 제기한
내란실행과 국방경비법 위반 등에 대한 재심청구사건을 29일 첫 변론을 시작으로 본격 시작한다고 밝혔습니다.

앞서 법원은 재심 청구인들이 옥살이를 했지만 구속영장의 존재가 확인되지 않고
일부 청구인들은 불법 구금과 가혹행위를 당한 사실이 인정된다며 재심을 결정한 바 있습니다.
