Dozens of irregularities uncovered over 3-year period

As news of corruption and other irregularities at private kindergartens across the country have spawned an outburst of public indignation, the provincial education office decided to make public its inspection results of local schools.

The office has posted on its website the results of inspections of 21 private kindergartens. The probes were conducted from 2014 to 2016. The information includes the real names of the associated people and schools.

Some of the problems made public include a kindergarten director who improperly collected tens of millions of won in rent for land that was zoned for educational purposes and other schools where wages were unreasonably high. The education office issued 49 warnings, 14 correction orders, and severe disciplinary action in two cases.

사립유치원의 비리 행위로 전국에서 공분이 일고 있는 가운데 제주도교육청 차원의 사립유치원 감사 결과가 실명으로 공개됐습니다.

제주도교육청은 도내 사립유치원 21곳을 대상으로 2014년과 2016년 실시한 감사 결과를 실명과 함께 홈페이지에 공개했습니다.

내용을 보면 교육부지 명목으로 소유한 원장 명의 토지에 수천만 원 임대료를 받아 챙겼고 과다한 급여가 지급된 것으로 드러나 주의 49건, 시정 14건, 중징계 2건 등 처분이 내려졌습니다.
