Governor says facility can be built according to schedule

The governor says he believes the construction of the island’s second airport can be finished by 2025.

Won Heeryong made the remarks October 26th at the Provincial Office during a parliamentary inspection of the provincial government by members of the National Assembly’s Public Administration and Security Committee. When asked if the airport will be built according to schedule, the governor said that, according to an analysis with the transport ministry, he believes the facility can be built as planned.

He said that estimate is based on there being no fundamental flaws with the second site feasibility study for the airport, which is currently underway.

Governor Won vowed to take into account the opinions of residents who oppose the facility and to do whatever he can to resolve conflicts related to the project.

원희룡 지사가 2025년까지 제2공항을 완공할 수 있다는 입장을 밝혔습니다.

원 지사는 26일 제주도청에서 열린 국회 행정안전위원회 국정감사에서 제2공항이 계획대로 완공될지 묻는 질의에 국토교통부와 검토 결과 당초 목표 연도인 2025년까지 완공은 불가능하지 않다고 말했습니다.

다만 현재 진행중인 입지 선정 재검증 용역에서 근본적인 하자가 없어야 한다는 점을 전제했습니다.

원 지사는 공항 추진과정에서 반대 주민들의 의견을 충분히 수렴해서 갈등 해소를 위해 노력하겠다고 강조했습니다.
