Governor says second airport more important

At that same parliamentary inspection, the governor expressed opposition to another proposed transport project.

Representative Joo Seung-yong of the Bareun Mirae Party said Friday he thought construction should begin as soon as possible on an undersea tunnel between Jeju and Honam. Governor Won Hee-ryong said it was too early to begin work on the project.

He added that the construction of the second airport and the resolution of related conflicts are more pressing issues, and that discussions on an undersea tunnel between here and the mainland should begin only after local consensus on the proposal has been reached.

원희룡 지사가 제주와 호남 고속터널 건설사업에 대해 반대 입장을 밝혔습니다.

원 지사는 26일 국회 행정안전위원회 국정감사에서 제주와 목포 해저터널을 조속히 건설해야 한다는 바른미래당 주승용 의원의 주장에 대해 시기상조라고 답했습니다.

제2공항 건설과 갈등 문제 해결이 더 시급한 현안이라며 해저터널은 도민 공감대가 형성된 이후 논의될 사안이라고 덧붙혔습니다.
