5. Chagwido named November’s ‘Uninhabited Island of the Month’
Small island west of Jeju known for its unique landscape

The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries has selected (차귀도) Chagwido Island in (한경면) Hangyeong-myeon, Jeju City, as November’s ‘uninhabited island of the month.”

The island is small, at only 0.16 square kilometers, and it’s the westernmost point of Jeju Province. It is known for its spectacular landscape of seashore cliffs and unique rock formations.

Seoul named it Natural Monument Number 422 in 2000, and its entirety is also a national geopark.

As a designated natural reserve, entry to the island was prohibited until 2011, when it was opened to the public.

해수부, 11월 무인도서 '차귀도' 선정

해양수산부가 11월의 무인도서로 제주시 한경면 차귀도를 선정해 발표했습니다.

제주에서 가장 서쪽에 위치한 차귀도는 0.16㎢ 면적의 작은 섬으로 해안절벽과 기암괴석이 어우러져 절경을 이루고 있습니다.

특히 2000년부터 국가지정 천연기념물 제422호로 섬 전체가 국가지질공원이라고 소개했습니다.

차귀도는 그동안 천연보호구역으로 출입이 금지됐다가 2011년부터 일반에 개방됐습니다.
