4. Garlic, carrot, cabbage production declines over past 10 years
More onions being grown on island

Over the past decade, garlic, carrot, and cabbage production has fallen on the island, while farmers have grown more onions.

The Jeju branch of the Honam Regional Statistics Office says garlic production is down 48.6 percent. The numbers for carrots and cabbages are 50.6 percent and 30.8 percent, respectively.

Onion production, however, is up 58.8 percent over the past ten years.

Over the same period, the area dedicated to growing mandarin oranges grew by 1.3% to 21,000 hectares but production of the fruit fell by 6.3 percent.

최근 10년 동안 제주에서는 마늘과 당근, 배추 생산량은 준 반면 양파 생산량은 크게 늘었습니다.

호남지방통계청 제주사무소에 따르면 제주지역 마늘생산량은 10년전에 비해 48.6% 감소했고당근과 배추는 각각 50.6%, 30.8% 줄어들었습니다.

반면, 양파 생산량은 10년 동안 58.8% 증가했습니다.

한편, 감귤 재배면적은 2만 1천 헥타르로 10년전에 비해 1.3% 증가했지만 생산량은 6.3% 감소한 것으로 나타났습니다.
