3. New stamps honor UNESCO designation of ‘haenyeo’
Diving women’s culture named intangible cultural heritage in 2016

New stamps are being released to honor the inclusion of Jeju’s diving women on UNESCO’s list of intangible cultural heritage.

UNESCO added the Jeju “haenyeo” culture to the list in 2016.

The provincial government is releasing a total of 420,000 stamps, divided into two versions.

They depict “haenyeo” collecting conches and officials say they symbolize the diving women’s unique community culture.


제주해녀 유네스코 등재 기념 우표 발행

제주해녀의 유네스코 등재를 기념하는 우표가 발행됩니다.

제주도는 지난 2016년 유네스코 인류무형문화유산으로 등재된 제주해녀를 소개하는 기념우표 2종, 42만장을 21일부터 발행한다고 밝혔습니다.

우표는 해녀들이 주로 채취하는 소라 캐는 장면을 디자인했고 해녀문화라는 공동체를 상징적으로 담아냈습니다.
