Retail sales retreat in Q3

The local economy is in a slump.

According to a study of real economic trends by the Jeju branch of the Bank of Korea, lackluster duty-free sales pulled the retail sales index down in the third quarter. The consumer composite sentiment index also dropped compared to the second quarter of the year.

Tourist arrivals dipped 2.6 percent last month compared to October 2017. An uptick in foreign tourists because of China’s National Day holidays and a PGA Tour event didn’t offset a drop in domestic travelers, which analysts blame on typhoons and other large storms.

한국은행 제주본부의 실물경제동향에 따르면 올해 3분기 제주지역 소매판매액지수는 면세점을 중심으로 상승세가 둔화됐고 소비자심리지수 역시 지난분기보다 크게 떨어졌습니다.

지난달 관광객수는 외국인 관광객 호조에도 지난해 같은 기간보다 2.6% 하락했습니다.

중국 국경절과 PGA 골프 투어 등으로 외국인 관광객수는 크게 증가했지만
태풍 영향 등으로 내국인 관광객 수가 다소 감소한 것으로 나타났습니다.
