4. Weak Q3 in fishing industry
Catch down 19.2% compared to last year

Compared to last year, local fishermen are hauling in far fewer fish.

Statistics Korea says the the third quarter catch was 28,100 tons. That’s 19.2 percent lower than the third quarter of last year.

It was worth 205 billion won in total, and that represents a drop of 31.8 percent.

The mackerel catch was up significantly, but not enough to cover a 36 percent drop in the hairtail catch. Analysts say that’s what led to the overall decrease.

Flatfish aquafarmers weren’t spared. Output in that sector dropped because there weren’t enough fish that met shipping standards.


제주 어업생산량 크게 줄어…갈치·넙치↓

최근 들어 제주도 어업생산량이 크게 줄어들었습니다.

통계청에 따르면 올해 3분기 제주도 어업생산량은 2만 8천 100여톤으로 지난해 같은 기간에 비해 19.2% 감소했습니다.

생산금액은 2천 51억 원으로 1년 전보다 31.8% 줄었습니다.

제주 주변해역의 고등어 생산량은 크게 늘어난 반면 주요 품종인 갈치 어획량이 36% 감소하면서 전체 생산량 급감으로 이어진 것으로 분석됐습니다.

양식 넙치 역시 출하규격에 맞춘 보유량이 많지 않아 생산량이 감소했습니다.
