Island Investigations on Club Drugs Last month, a drug trafficking and distribution network involved in selling drugs such as Ecstasy and Ketamine in karaoke bars and foreigner-exclusive clubs in South (경상) Gyeongsang Province was apprehended by the Coast Guard. Amidst a series of drug crimes occurring in clubs and bars nationwide, a similar drug offender has been arrested in Jeju as well. A man in his 30s, identified as Mr. A, who was formerly affiliated with a club, has been arrested last month on suspicion of possessing dozens of Ecstasy pills and consuming them. Jeju District Prosecutor's Office has indicted Mr. A on charges of drug possession and consumption, and they have also announced that they are conducting supplementary investigations into individuals who were involved in drug consumption with him. Ecstasy, a new type of drug, is known as a "club drug" as it is primarily consumed by young people. It has a hallucinogenic effect that is three times stronger than that of methamphetamine. INTERVIEW Jo Gwang-won / Jeju Office, Korean Society of Drug Abuse Ecstasy is known to produce hallucinogenic effects that can induce a significant elevation in mood. It is indeed a drug that is commonly used by young people. The Jeju Provincial Police Agency has stated that this case is unrelated to clubs, and it is difficult to disclose specific details regarding the case, including the specific charges, as the investigation is still ongoing. According to the Korea Customs Service, the amount of newly identified drugs seized last year was 260 kg, which is more than a tenfold increase compared to two years ago. Among them, the quantity of Ecstasy seizures increased by seven times during the same period. With the recent arrest of an Ecstasy drug offender in Jeju, there is growing interest in whether the crimes are linked to related industries, as seen in nationwide cases, rather than being isolated incidents of individual crimes. The investigation results regarding any potential spread of crime to associated sectors have garnered significant attention. 제주에도 클럽 마약?…경찰 수사 확대 지난 달 경남에 있는 노래주점과 외국인 전용 클럽 등에서 엑스터시와 케타민 등 마약류를 판매한 판매책과 유통 조직이 해경에 검거됐습니다. 전국적으로 클럽이나 술집에서 마약 범죄가 잇따르는 가운데 제주에서도 유사 마약 사범이 검거됐습니다. 모 클럽 관계자였던 30대 A 씨가 지난 달 엑스터시 수십 정을 소지하고 투약한 혐의로 구속됐습니다. 제주지검은 A 씨를 마약류 소지와 투약 혐의로 구속 기소했고 함께 투약한 이들에 대해서도 보완 수사를 진행하고 있다고 밝혔습니다. 엑스터시는 필로폰보다 환각 작용이 3배나 큰 신종 마약류로 젊은 층이 주로 투약하면서 일명 클럽용 마약으로도 알려졌습니다. <인터뷰 : 고광언/ 한국마약범죄학회 제주지회장> 엑스터시를 투약하면 환각작용을 일으켜서 기분이 아주 상승되는 효과를 누리는 마약으로 알려지고 있습니다. 젊은 사람들이 많이 이용하는 마약으로 보면 되겠습니다. 제주경찰청은 이번 사건은 클럽과는 무관하다면서도 구체적인 혐의점 등은 수사가 진행 중이여서 밝히기 어렵다고 전했습니다. 지난해 관세청이 적발한 신종 마약류는 260kg으로 2년 전보다 10배 이상 급증했습니다. 이 가운데 엑스터시 적발 물량은 같은 기간 7배나 늘었습니다. 제주에서도 엑스터시 마약 사범이 검거된 가운데 개인의 단순 범죄가 아닌 전국 사례처럼 연관 업종으로 범죄가 퍼졌을지 수사 결과에 관심이 모아지고 있습니다.

He said members of the public will take part in the campaign. Beginning next year, 1,000 local citizens will act as public order guards and be sent out to look for violations. They will work in conjunction with an administrative crackdown. Hosted by the Jeju Free International City Development Center and organized by KCTV, some 60 people are taking part in this year’s event. That total includes 9 local families based on international marriages and 17 parents of the foreign wives, who come from four countries. Organizers say that over the next couple of weeks, the foreign parents will create unforgettable memories with their daughters, who moved to Jeju to marry local men. The JDC and KCTV have been working on “Love in Jeju” as a way to give back to local society since 2015. JDC-KCTV, 다문화 친정부모 9가정 제주 초청 다문화가정 친정부모를 제주로 초청하는 JDC 러브인 제주가 23일 환영행사를 시작으로 보름간의 일정에 들어갑니다. 제주국제자유도시개발센터가 주최하고 KCTV 제주방송이 주관하는 이번 행사에는 4개국 9개 가정 17명의 친정부모와 가족 등 60여 명이 참가합니다. 특히 제주로 초청된 친정부모들은 보름동안 머물며 제주로 시집온 딸과 잊지못할 추억을 만들게 됩니다. The province had attempted to revoke both the development permit and the license it issued to create an electricity business. It lost the first court case, and it has now submitted its decision to cancel its appeal. Prosecutors have accepted that decision. Provincial officials and advisory counsel reviewed the decision from the first trial and concluded that there was no practical benefit to the appeal and that the province was unlikely to win. Analysts say this means the original developer, Hanhwa Engineering & Construction, is highly likely to resume work on the project. 제주도, 어음풍력발전 사업허가 항소 포기 제주도가 어음2리 육상풍력발전사업지구 개발사업에 대한 사업허가 취소 소송 패소를 인정하고 항소를 포기하기로 했습니다. 제주도는 어음풍력발전 개발사업시행승인과 전기사업허가 취소처분 취소 소송에 대한 항소 포기 의견을 내고 검찰도 이를 수용하기로 했습니다. 제주도는 1심 패소에 따른 판결문에 대해 자문변호사와 검토 작업을 벌였지만 항소에 따른 실익이 없고 승소 가능성도 낮다고 판단한 것으로 전해졌습니다. 이에 따라 어음풍력발전사업은 당초 사업자인 한화건설이 재추진할 가능성이 높아졌습니다.

Remains of 29 April 3rd Incident victims given to families Bodies identified through DNA testing It’s been a 70-year wait, but the relatives of 29 April 3rd Incident victims have received the remains of their loved ones. The April 3rd Peace Foundation presented the remains to the families during a Thursday briefing at the Jeju April 3rd Peace Education Center. 400 bodies were exhumed from Jeju International Airport and other locations between 2006 and 2011, and these 29 had been positively identified. They were the first to be ID'd through DNA testing since 2016. The number of victims that have been identified in this manner is now up to 121. 4·3 유해 29구 70년만에 유족에 인계 4·3 희생자 유해 29구가 70년 만에 가족 품으로 돌아갔습니다. 제주 4·3 평화재단은 22일 제주 4·3평화교육센터에서 보고회를 열고 지난 2006년부터 2011년까지 제주국제공항 등에서 발굴된 유해 400구 가운데 신원을 확인한 29구를 유가족에게 전달했습니다. 유전자 감식을 통해 신원이 새롭게 확인된건 지난 2016년 이후 2년 만입니다. 이에따라 지금까지 신원이 확인된 4.3 희생자 유해는 121구로 늘어났습니다.

Among the program graduates, 83 have been hired and another 160, including 66 students who will graduate from their colleges next year, were promised employment by Landing. National authorities release Jeju Innovation City development plan ￦167b to be spent on 12 projects Authorities have announced plans to use technology to develop the meetings, incentives, conventions, and exhibitions industry around the Jeju Innovation City. The Presidential Committee for Balanced National Development has finalized a comprehensive development plan through 2022 for the Jeju Innovation City. It includes 12 projects, which cost 167 billion won. A development committee will be formed to identify new business models and to establish a platform for providing integrated information on conferences, exhibitions, and education. The goal is to host 160 international conferences annually. It will also remodel unused spaces in nearby villages and develop a tailored tourism platform for the communities.   • 4. Weak Q3 in fishing industry Catch down 19.2% compared to last year Compared to last year, local fishermen are hauling in far fewer fish. Statistics Korea says the the third quarter catch was 28,100 tons. That’s 19.2 percent lower than the third quarter of last year. It was worth 205 billion won in total, and that represents a drop of 31.8 percent. The mackerel catch was up significantly, but not enough to cover a 36 percent drop in the hairtail catch. Analysts say that’s what led to the overall decrease. Flatfish aquafarmers weren’t spared. Output in that sector dropped because there weren’t enough fish that met shipping standards. 제주 어업생산량 크게 줄어…갈치·넙치↓ 최근 들어 제주도 어업생산량이 크게 줄어들었습니다. 통계청에 따르면 올해 3분기 제주도 어업생산량은 2만 8천 100여톤으로 지난해 같은 기간에 비해 19.2% 감소했습니다. 생산금액은 2천 51억 원으로 1년 전보다 31.8% 줄었습니다. 제주 주변해역의 고등어 생산량은 크게 늘어난 반면 주요 품종인 갈치 어획량이 36% 감소하면서 전체 생산량 급감으로 이어진 것으로 분석됐습니다. 양식 넙치 역시 출하규격에 맞춘 보유량이 많지 않아 생산량이 감소했습니다.
