Bodies identified through DNA testing

It’s been a 70-year wait, but the relatives of 29 April 3rd Incident victims have received the remains of their loved ones.

The April 3rd Peace Foundation presented the remains to the families during a Thursday briefing at the Jeju April 3rd Peace Education Center. 400 bodies were exhumed from Jeju International Airport and other locations between 2006 and 2011, and these 29 had been positively identified.

They were the first to be ID'd through DNA testing since 2016.

The number of victims that have been identified in this manner is now up to 121.

4·3 희생자 유해 29구가 70년 만에 가족 품으로 돌아갔습니다.

제주 4·3 평화재단은 22일 제주 4·3평화교육센터에서 보고회를 열고 지난 2006년부터 2011년까지 제주국제공항 등에서 발굴된 유해 400구 가운데
신원을 확인한 29구를 유가족에게 전달했습니다.

유전자 감식을 통해 신원이 새롭게 확인된건 지난 2016년 이후 2년 만입니다.

이에따라 지금까지 신원이 확인된 4.3 희생자 유해는 121구로 늘어났습니다.
