Arrivals from Japan, Thailand, Taiwan, Malaysia up 50-100%

More foreign travelers, but fewer domestic tourists, are coming to Jeju.

The Jeju branch of the Bank of Korea has released its study on economic trends for the fourth quarter this year. It found that arrivals from Japan, Thailand, Taiwan and Malaysia have increased by between 50 and 100 percent compared to the same period last year.

Analysts cite an increasing preference for going overseas and a fewer number of flight tickets to the island as the main reasons fewer Koreans are vacationing here.

Experts say that means the province should give preference to larger airplanes and that it should relax restrictions on the times that planes can take off and land here.

제주지역을 찾는 외국인 관광객 수는 증가하고 있는 반면 내국인은 감소하고 있습니다.

한국은행 제주본부가 개최한 올해 4분기 제주지역 경제동향에 따르면 일본과 태국, 대만과 말레이시아 등 외국인 관광객이 지난해 같은 기간보다 국가별로 50에서 100% 증가한 것으로 나타났습니다.

반면 내국인 관광객은 해외여행 선호 경향이 확대되고 항공사 공급 좌석이 축소됨에 따라 점차 감소하고 있습니다.

전문가들은 제주행 대형 항공기 이착륙을 우대하고 항공기 운항 통제 시간을 줄이는 등 대책이 필요하다고 진단했습니다.
