Won Heeryong will lose position if found guilty and fined at least ￦1m

The governor has been indicted and will stand trial for alleged election law violations.

The Jeju District Prosecutor’s Office said Friday morning that it was indicting Won Heeryong on 2 counts of pre-electioneering. Investigators had looked into five allegations against him, including Public Official Election Act violations and bribery.

This comes after one of Won’s opponents in the last election accused him of engaging in electioneering prior to the official campaign period, saying he outlined his election pledges and asked for support while at a Seogwipo wedding hall and Jeju Tourism University on May 23rd and 24th.

If the governor is fined one million won or more for violating the Public Official Election Act, he will lose the governorship.

검찰, 원희룡 지사 사전선거운동 혐의 기소

선거법 위반 혐의로 고발돼 검찰 수사를 받아오던 원희룡 제주도지사가 결국 재판에 넘겨졌습니다.

제주지방검찰청은 30일 오전 원희룡 지사에 대한 공직선거법 위반과 뇌물수수 등 5개 혐의 가운데 사전선거운동 2건에 대해 기소했다고 밝혔습니다.

앞서 원 지사는 공식선거운동이 시작되기 전인 지난 5월 23일과 24일 서귀포시 모 웨딩홀과 제주관광대에서 자신의 주요 공약을 설명하고 지지를 호소했다며
상대 후보측으로부터 사전선거운동 혐의로 고발됐습니다.

공직선거법 위반 혐의로 100만원 이상의 형이 확정되면 원 지사는 지사직을 잃게 됩니다.
