Governor responds to indictment

The governor released a statement after his indictment saying the case against him is politically motivated.

In his Friday statement, Won Heeryong said the Jeju Election Commission had already given him written warnings regarding his alleged violations of election law, so he believes his indictment is political. He called the legal action against him “regrettable.”

Won said he was sorry to concern his constituents, but that the legality of his actions will be made clear in court.

선거법 위반 혐의로 기소된 것과 관련해 원희룡 지사는 30일 오전 입장문을 통해
이미 제주도선거관리위원회에서 서면 경고로 끝난 사안을 기소했다는 것은 정치적 판단이 개입된 결정이라며 검찰에 유감의 뜻을 밝혔습니다.

그러면서 법정에서 위법성 여부가 명확히 밝혀질 것이라며 도민께 걱정을 끼쳐드려 송구하다고 덧붙였습니다.
