2. First review of April 3rd Incident disability claims
17 people confirmed as shot, tortured, etc.
As officials review new claims from people who say they were either a victim of the April 3rd Incident or a relative of one, they are also reviewing claims, for the first time ever, of people who say they became disabled due to the incident.
The Jeju April 3rd Incident Working Committee has finished its fifth round of reviews, which included 1,080 petitions.
The claims include 17 people who committee members confirmed were were disabled because of the incident: seven were shot, four were injured with bamboo spears or other weapons, and six were tortured.
The committee is accepting claims through the end of the month.
희생자·유족 추가 의결…후유장애인 첫 심사
4·3 희생자와 유족에 대한 추가 신고와 심의가 이뤄지고 있는 가운데 처음으로
후유장애인에 대한 심사가 이뤄졌습니다.
제주 4·3 실무위원회는 최근 추가 신고에 대한 5차 심사를 벌여 희생자와 유족 1천 80명에 대한 심의를 의결했습니다.
특히 이 가운데 후유장애인 17명이 포함됐으며 이들은 총상피해 7명과 죽창이나 흉기 피해 4명, 고문 피해 6명으로 확인됐습니다.
현재 진행되고 있는 4·3 추가 신고는 오는 31일까지 이뤄집니다.
