3. 1 step closer to Korean translation of IB curriculum

The provincial education office is getting closer to having the International Baccalaureate curriculum translated into Korean.

(정이운) Jeong Lee-un, the policymaker at the office, said at a Tuesday press briefing that it had received a positive initial answer to its request to translate the curriculum into Korean, adding that the IB head office will soon announce its final decision.

The provincial education office is in talks with the IB head office about translating all subjects into Korean for teaching purposes, and evaluating in English in only two subjects: English and Art.

According to the plan, the translated IB curriculum will be introduced at one rural high school in 2020, when students now in their 2nd year of middle school go to high school.

IB과정 한글화 '긍정적'…2021년 도입 목표

제주도교육청에서 추진중인 IB교육과정 한글화 도입 가능성이 높아지고 있습니다.

정이운 제주도교육청 정책기획실장은 4일 기자간담회에서 IB 사무국으로부터
IB교육과정을 한글화하는데 긍정적인 답변을 받았다며 곧 사무국에서 최종 결정 사항을 발표할 것이라고 밝혔습니다.

제주도교육청은 현재 IB사무국과 모든 과목을 한글로 번역해 수업을 진행하고
영어와 예술분야 2과목만 영어로 평가하는 방식을 협의중이라고 덧붙였습니다.

제주도교육청은 계획대로 진행된다면 현재 중학교 2학년이 고등학교에 들어가는 2020학년도 고입전형에 반영해 읍·면지역 고등학교 한 군데를 IB 운영학교로 운영할 계획입니다.
