4. Jusangjeolli viewing path to be improved
Work set to begin in 2020

The viewing path for the (주상절리) Jusangjeolli columnar joints along the Jungmun Daepo Coast will be improved.

Seogwipo officials recently selected the design for the work through a public contest. It will finalize that blueprint next year, with work scheduled to begin in 2020.

They say the design will allow visitors to see the characteristics of the geological formation while inducing a natural walking flow and minimizing environmental damage.

Workers will be removing the current trail and replacing it with the new path, so critics say some environmental damage is, however, inevitable.

중문대포해안 주상절리대에 대한 관람로가 개선됩니다.

서귀포시는 최근 중문대포해안 주상절리대에 대한 경관 설계 공모를 통해 당선작을 확정하고 내년 기본 실시설계에 이어 2020년에 착공할 계획입니다.

당선작은 주상절리의 지질학적 특성을 직접 체험하고 관람객 동선을 유도하면서
자연 훼손을 최소화했다는 평가를 받았습니다.

하지만 환경 개선사업을 추진하면서 기존 관람로를 제거한 후 다시 설치할 예정이어서 일정 부분 자연 훼손이 불가피합니다.
