3. ‘Nearly 80% of people aware of April 3rd Incident’

According to a survey, nearly eight out of every ten Koreans are aware of the April 3rd Incident.

According to the poll on the public perception of the incident, 78.8 percent of citizens said they knew about it. That’s more than the figures for the No Gun Ri Massacre and the Yeosu-Suncheon Rebellion. 54 percent of respondents categorized the April 3rd Incident as a massacre, 9.4 percent said it was a riot, and 7.7 percent termed it a resistance movement.

The April 3rd Peace Foundation hired Gallup Korea to perform the survey. It questioned 1,505 men and women aged 19 and older by telephone on November 19th and 20th. It had a response rate of 13 percent and a confidence level of 95 percent with a margin of error of plus or minus 2.5 percentage points.

4.3 70주년 전국민 제주4.3 인식조사 결과에 따르면 한국 현대사 주요 사건 가운데 제주 4.3 사건에 대한 국민 인지도는 78.7%로 노근리 양민학살사건과 여순사건 보다 높았습니다.

제주 4.3 사건 성격에 대해 응답자의 54%가 양민학살이라고 답했고 폭동은 9.4%, 항쟁은 7.7% 순이었습니다.

이번 조사는 4.3 평화재단이 한국갤럽조사연구소에 의뢰해 지난달 19일부터 20일까지 이틀 동안 전국 만 19살 이상 남녀 1천 505명을 대상으로 전화조사 방식으로 진행됐으며 응답률은 13%, 표본오차는 95% 신뢰수준에 플러스마이너스 2.5% 포인트입니다.
