This week on Jeju: A to Z, Todd Thacker takes a brief look at an annual celebration of winter held right here in Jeju City. The Jeju Winter Festival will run through Jan. 6 in the heart of old downtown Jeju with music, magic, and more.
In some ways, Jeju Island has the best of both worlds when it comes to winter. Up on Hallasan Mountain, a beautiful, bright white blanket of snow is an ever-present reminder of the season and easily accessible by car or bus. If you prefer admiring winter from afar, the coastal areas are generally snow-free thanks to relatively warm ocean currents.

Celebrate the season along Chilseong-ro, Dec. 20 to Jan. 6
Regardless of what category you fall into, it’s easy to revel in the snow season during the annual Jeju Winter Festival. Organized by the provincial government and the Jeju Tourism Organization the event will be held from December 20th to January 6th and focus on the area around the Chilseong-ro commercial district.
