1. 5,300 taxi drivers go on strike Thursday morning
Opposition to new ridesharing app Kakao Carpool

Jeju taxi drivers began a strike at 4 a.m. Thursday in opposition to a new ridesharing app and service called “Kakao Carpool.”

Privately-owned and operated cabs went on strike for 24 hours starting at 4. Corporate fleets did, as well, but they started at 6 a.m. Thursday.

In total, 5,300 taxi drivers joined the walkout.

Many people reported having a very difficult time getting places because of the strike.

The provincial government added nine temporary buses to six routes connecting with the airport and the main bus terminal through early Friday morning.

이번 파업에 참여한 택시는 5천300여 대에 이릅니다.

택시 운행 중단으로 시민들의 불편이 잇따랐습니다.

제주도는 내일 새벽까지 공항과 터미널을 중심으로 임시 버스 9대를 추가 투입해 운행하고 있습니다.
