Forecast to hit 55,000 in 2046

By the year 2046, over 55,000 local seniors are projected to be living alone.

Based on an analysis of big data, the provincial government determined that 14,000 people aged 65 and over currently live alone. That total is projected to nearly quadruple in less than three decades.

Local officials will turn again to big data to calculate how much welfare funding will be needed to support those single-person households and then identify projects and plans to secure the necessary funding.

2046년이면 도내 65살 이상 1인 가구가 5만 5천명 을 넘을 전망입니다.

제주특별자치도는 빅데이터 분석 결과 현재 1만 4천여 명인 도내 65살 이상 1인 가구수는 2046년 5만 5천 여 명으로 네 배 가량 증가할 것이라고 밝혔습니다.

제주도는 빅데이터를 기반으로 홀로 사는 어르신 복지 예산을 추계한 뒤 관련 사업을 발굴할 계획입니다.
