Speaker ‘regrets ending year with so many issues unresolved’

The 11th Jeju Provincial Council ended its 367th provisional session Friday.

In his closing speech, Speaker (김태석) Kim Tae-seok expressed his dismay that the body was ushering in the new year with many issues unresolved. That list includes the conflict surrounding the building of the island’s second airport, environmental degradation, and the contracting local tourism sector.

Regarding the governor’s conditional approval of the nation’s first for-profit hospital despite public opinion against the facility, the speaker said he was concerned about the consequences of and responsibility for ignoring deliberative democracy.

Finally, he urged officials at the office of education to consider its basic policy principles in response to the office employees demanding higher wages and better working conditions.

제 367회 임시회 폐회…올해 일정 마무리

제11대 제주도의회가 21일 제367회 임시회 폐회식을 끝으로 올해 모든 일정을 마무리했습니다.

김태석 의장은 폐회사를 통해 제2공항 갈등과 환경 오염, 관광산업 위축 같은 문제가 여전히 실마리가 풀리지 않은 상태에서 새해를 맞이하고 있어 안타깝다고 말했습니다.

특히 영리병원 조건부 허가와 관련해서는 숙의민주주의가 독단적으로 포기돼
앞으로 어떤 결과와 책임이 요구될지 걱정이 크다고 덧붙였습니다.

교육청에 대해서도 임금과 처우개선을 요구하는 노동자들의 목소리가 크다며
초심의 정책 철학을 생각해줄 것을 요구했습니다.
