Plan to preserve existing structure while adding needed updates

Researchers say that the best way to utilize the outdated Jeju City Citizens’ Hall is to remodel the building both above and below ground while preserving the existing structure.

The agency hired to study the feasibility of utilizing the 50-year-old building has released its final report on the project. The company suggested preserving the existing structure, but transforming it into a state-of-the-art five-floor building with two underground levels.

Researchers say that’s the most effective way to preserve the building’s architectural and historic value while improving its safety and use.

Jeju City plans to begin detailed discussions about the project before starting the step-by-step process of implementing it.

기존 건물을 보존하고 지상과 지하부를 신축해서 활용해야 한다는 연구 결과가 나왔습니다.

제주시가 발표한 시민회관 활용방안 타당성 조사와 기본설계 용역 최종보고회에 따르면 용역진은 시민회관 기존 건물을 보존한 상태에서 최신 공법을 적용해 지하2층, 지상 5층 높이로 리모델링 할 것을 최적안으로 제시했습니다.

이를 통해 시민회관의 건축적 가치와 역사성을 보존하고 건물의 안전성과 활용성도 높이자는 겁니다.

제주시는 용역진이 제시한 대안을 우선 논의해 단계적인 절차를 밟아가겠다는 계획입니다.
