1. Jeju Province has given up urban development projects around airport
Government will continue with road connection to 5 day market

The provincial government has practically abandoned an urban development project intended for around the Jeju International Airport.

In a press briefing last Friday, the general director of urban construction for the province, (이양문)Lee Yang-mun said the province will review the development as a long term project. Mr. Lee went on to say this urban development project is focusing on building public facilities and it is hard to establish business value.

In addition, the provincial government will review the location and scale of the Wide-area Complex Transfer Center that was supposed to be built nearby the Jeju Airport.

However, it will build roads that connect the airport and the five-day market as scheduled, and establish a management plan regarding the creation and changes of fundamental facilities around the area.

The provincial government announced a New City Basic Plan around the Jeju Airport last July, focusing on high-density development including buildings with more than 20 floors as well as the Wide-area Complex Transfer Center.


제주공항 주변 도시개발 사실상 포기

제주특별자치도가 제주공항 주변지역에 대한 도시개발사업을 사실상 포기했습니다.

이양문 제주도 도시건설국장은 21일 오전 제주도청 기자실에서 브리핑을 갖고
제주공항 주변 공공시설 위주의 도시개발 사업은 사업성 확보가 곤란해 장기과제로 검토하기로 했습니다.

또 제주공항 입구에 추진하려던 광역복합환승센터 역시 위치와 규모 등을 재검토하기로 해 사실상 무산될 가능성이 크다는 분석입니다.

다만 제주공항과 오일장을 잇는 도로 개설은 정상적으로 추진하며 이 일대를 중심으로 기반시설의 설치와 변경, 건축물의 용도 등에 대한 관리방안을 수립하기로 했습니다.
